Black Velvet are a top traditional Irish band based near Padstow Cornwall UK, but regularly travel so please ask.

Established for well over 30 years now, the "core of the band" comprises family, then for gigs which require a larger sound, the band has access to some great additional guest players, adding additional instruments to the sound of their music.

The band plays a lively mix of traditional Irish entertainment, playing songs, jigs, reels and comedy, a highly adaptable band suitable for every event from the very large to pubs, rallies, hotels, festivals, weddings or even wakes to private parties and intimate family events!  

Black Velvet's music is lively, yet thoughtful, and you can't help but tap your feet! Audiences can also expect a generous helping of Irish wit and humour in the form of jokes, audience interaction and comic songs.

The band plays a wide range of music within the Irish Folk genre and the content is adapted to suit the audience including Cornish and sing along favourites at the local venues.

Black Velvet are a very flexible band, and gigs include all types of venues from the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Centaur and the Guinness village to the Royal Cornwall show with over 100,000 visitors, to pubs, weddings, hotels and private parties.

They have toured internationally and also made a number of live broadcasts on Radio and numerous appearances on terrestrial and Sky T.V.

Black Velvet are Cornwall's longest established Irish band covering Cornwall, Devon Somerset and across the UK.

Black Velvet are a family Irish band, comprising of Alan (Vocals, Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo, Bazouki)

Caroline (Vocals, Bodhran, Guitar, Percussion) Emma (Whistles, Tenor low Whistle, Bodhran) plus guest players.

The band originally formed as a husband and wife duo of Alan and Caroline, so the name Black Velvet was chosen with reference to the song and the popular drink made by mixing Champagne and Guinness ( so no prizes for guessing which one is which!)

Daughter Emma became the band's whistle player professionally at the age of 11 and the duo became a trio, enriched by her enchanting whistle playing.

One of the U.K's finest whistle players, Emma also features on the Fisherman's Friends album Sole Mates, and the Loverage album As the Crow Flies.

Together Black Velvet have toured all over the U.K. and abroad, recorded 6 albums, and a D.V.D. available through this site.

This top Irish band are based in Cornwall UK, so gig all over Cornwall but do venture elsewhere, so even if your venue is not close by, still ask, as we do travel.
